Jerome & Co., New Haven, Conn., cottage clock, 30-hour, time and strike with lamp-lighting burglar alarm, spring driven movement in a mahogany veneered case with decorative thermoplastic inserts in upper and lower parts of door, painted metal dial, and steel hands.
CONDITION: Mahogany veneered cottage style case has a few dings and may have been given a new coat of clear finish. The painted metal dial has losses and the opposite side is also painted. Hands are period, but a bit early for this clock. Nice wood label inside of the door. The alarm triggers a lighting device on the top of the case. Matches are placed in the upright cylinder next to the oil lamp wick. An abrasive strip is held in the jaws of a spring loaded clamp. When the alarm is tripped -- by the alarm dial or stings attached to protected areas -- the abrasive strip is pulled across the matches, lighting the wick, while the alarm bell sounds. The device appear to be complete, but some small part or parts may be absent. The wires connecting the exterior triggers to the inner trip plate will need to be added back. This is a model not seem before by this firm and probably very rare.
