Strike train uses springs rather than counterweights. Small flared ends on the bottom of the upright steel movement posts. Four blade iron fly. No weights or pendulum come with this clock. (2) Early enamel dial is in excellent condition. Surface rust on some parts of the movement. Remnant curlicue on the end of the strike trip piece. Small stepped feet on the movement uprights. Four bladed iron fan is nicely made. Turned escape wheel arbor support. No weights or pendulum come with this clock. The two cast bronze frontons are nearly identical, both showing the backward facing rooster -- a longstanding symbol for France. The older clock with the cartouche numerals proudly displays three fleur de lis below the rooster. These were a symbol of monarchy. On the later clock with full enamel dial, the fleur de lis have been hastily filed off, perhaps during or after the French Revolution when any association with royalty was dangerous. Sold "as is ".
