Condition Report For Lot# 834 :
although from central Germany, not far from Dresden, this clock shows a lot of Augsburg influence. Unlike earlier versions in which the case would have been all of cast components, this one has a thinner round body formed round a mandrel and silver soldered at the seam, then engraved and gilded. The engraving on the bottom plate and cock is very fine, the base of the clock showing a grinning gargoyle. This clock came to us from a family in Virginia and has been in one place for the past 80 years or so, and has never been offered through the trade. Engraved and silvered dial with Roman numerals along an inside hour track, and with Arabic minute markers every 5 minutes along the outer minute ring. There is some dry brass cleaner on the case don't cringe], applied by someone recently who wanted the case to look nicer. It is ticking robustly. Overall excellent original condition. Note travel case has some distress and will need leather repair. Diameter = 3.3 inches, ht = 3.3"
Estimate: $7500 - $10000
