DESCRIPTION: Henry Merwin Shrady, a patinated bronze bust of Abraham Lincoln, the turned base supporting the well dressed figure, the back marked "261", and base signed H.M. Shrady, and with foundry mark
CONDITION: good overall, base dirty, minor abrasions through patination, back of base with losses to surface. Henry Merwin Shrady (1871- 1922) is best known for his creation of the Grant Memorial on Union Square in Washington, D.C. He received the commission in 1902, at age 31. The memorial was supposed to be finished five years later, but was not completed until 1921. The monument was dedicated on April 27, 1922, fifteen days after the death of the artist.
