DESCRIPTION: Instruments: 2 (Two) Compensated Ship's Binnacles: (1) Ship's binnacle, cylindrical oak stand, topped by a brass helmet with circular viewing window and top cap, enclosing a gimbaled 8 inch dry card compass marked Lord Kelvin, London. (2) Negus, New York, compensating ship's binnacle, cylindrical mahogany stand topped by a brass helmet with integrated oil lantern, lidded side viewing window and circular top window, enclosing a gimbaled 6 inch compass signed by Kelvin & White.
CONDITION: (1) Helmet has a dark, uneven patina. The quadrantal corrector mountings are present but the pair of soft iron spheres are absent. Large and heavy if shipping is a consideration. Glass of compass has many cracks. (2) Lacquer on brass helmet has turned dark brown. The quadrantal corrector mountings are present but the two soft iron spheres are absent. The oil lamp is missing a screw on one side of the handle. Large and heavy if shipping is a consideration. Sold "as is".
