Instruments- 2 (Two) Surveying: (1) W. & L.E. Gurley, Troy, New York, "20 Inch Wye Level", telescope with dark green finish inscribed "President Borough of Richmond- 1935", 7.5 inch bubble level mounted below the scope, rotating tripod mount with four adjustable screw feet, in a fitted mahogaNew York case with metal plaque. (2) Bausch & Lomb, Rochester, New York, engineer's precise level, 15 inch telescope with a dark green finish, 5 inch bubble level mounted to one side, rotating tripod mount with four adjustable screw feet, in a fitted mahogaNew York case with paper label under the lid.
CONDITION: (1) Dark green finish has a lovely craquelure with a very few losses and scratches on the telescope. Some accessories missing from wooden case. No tripod. Leather strap on case is absent. (2) Green finish on telescope is dark and dirty from use. Black paint on tripod mount has flaked off in spots. No lens cap. The instrument itself is not signed. There is a cryptic message hand-written on the outside of the box that reads "Feb 25th / Ford Theatre / 1864". Dimensions are for the Gurley's wooden case.
