The Manchester Downtown Hotel (formerly the Radisson Hotel), Manchester, NH
H. Hughes & Son Ltd., London, 7 inch sextant, pierced metal frame with black crinkle finish, signed brass arc with silvered scale, the graduations from -10 to 135, micrometer drum adjustment, index lamp, multiple shades for horizon and index mirrors, sighting scopes, and wood handle with battery compartment, all in finger-jointed mahogany box with a certificate from the National Physical Laboratory with a signature from its director, Sir C.G. Darwin dated 1940.
CONDITION: Set appears mostly compete with only one empty spot in the fitted wood case. Silvered scale has tarnished. Mirrors and shades are in good condition Wood handle with battery compartment looks clean. Unit was not tested. Sir C.G. Darwin was a physicist who served as director of the National Physical Laboratory during WW II. He was the grandson of Charles Darwin.
