DESCRIPTION: Dent, 61 Strand, London, a rare eight day marine chronometer with Dent's staple balance, 12 jewel, free sprung, reverse fusee movement with Earnshaw's escapement, bimetallic staple balance, blued steel helical balance spring and diamond endstone, Roman numeral silvered dial with wind indicator, blued steel spade and poker hands, contained in a lacquered brass bowl, and mounted in a gimballed mahogany and mahogany veneer box with brass furniture, the front with round plaque marked "3105"
CONDITION: movement good overall, running, a bit oily, a few screws with minor oxide, scattered minor spotting and staining, minor verdigris on mainspring setup pawl, fusee stop spring with a few spots of oxide, dial very good, with a few fine scratches, minute hand with minor bends, bowl and gimbals polished and lacquered, box very good, with minor marks and fine scratches, hardware with losses to lacquer and some tarnish. Dent chronometer #3106, also 8 day, is listed in Mercer's "Chronometer Makers of the World"
