DESCRIPTION: England, Patent Union Chronometer with center seconds, 18 jewels, key wind and set, gilt plate movement with patent union chronometer escapement, free sprung cut bimetallic balance with helical balance spring and gold timing screws, in a purpose made, 20th century, 18 karat, yellow gold, hinged back and bezel, reeded edge open face case by Martin Matthews, and Roman numeral, single sunk white enamel dial, gold spade and whip hands, serial #28824, 49mm, 133.4g TW, c1875.
CONDITION: CASE: Pin pricks; Fine scratches on outer surface of case; Minor scratches on inner surface of case; Precious metal content marked. DIAL: Hairlines in enamel, light, edge, 7:30; Spider hairlines, edge, 10:00; Small flake, at step to center, 7:00; Sunk center reattached, misaligned. HANDS: Good. MOVEMENT PLATES: Minor marks and scratches on plate; Plate screw with minor loss to blue. MOVEMENT FUNCTION: Running order (winds, sets and ticks), would benefit from service.
