Walsh, London for Samuel Hammond & Co., New York, free sprung spring detent pocket chronometer with wind indicator, 14 jewels, key wind and set, gilt half plate movement with Earnshaw spring detent escapement, and free sprung, cut bimetallic balance with gold timing screws, helical balance spring, and diamond endstone, in a sterling silver, hinged back and bezel, reeded edge, engine turned consular open face case and Roman numeral, single sunk, white enamel dial, blued steel spade hands, serial #264, 48mm, c1870.
CONDITION: CASE: Case has housed another movement; Minor scratches on outer surface of case; Fine scratches on inner surface of case; Engine turning with moderate wear; Precious metal content marked. DIAL: Hairlines, minor losses and glued chips, 4:00, 5:00, 9:00. HANDS: Replaced. MOVEMENT PLATES: Minor scratches on plate; Some screw heads with minor loss to blue; Detent repaired at foot. MOVEMENT FUNCTION: Running order (winds, sets and ticks) .
