MOVEMENT FUNCTION: Running order (winds, sets and ticks) Jacob Billikopf (1882-1950) was well known for his work in the labor movement, Jewish philanthropy, and social work. He became an NAACP board member in 1914, and in 1917, moved from Kansas City, Missouri to New York City, and became executive director of the American Jewish Relief Committee, raising twenty million dollars to aid displaced European Jews following the First World War. Jacob H. Schiff (1847-1920), was a banker, businessman, and philanthropist. He was a major funder of railroads, as well as other industrial and commercial concerns. He also was involved in addressing the problem of anti-semitism, the plight of Russian Jews under the Tsar, and the rise of Zionism. The watch appears to have been presented upon Billikopf's arrival in New York to head the Relief Committee.
