Condition Report For Lot# 1122 :
CASE: Dent in band, opposite pendant; Minor scratches on outer surface of case; Minor scratches on inner surface of case; Front hinge sticky; Cover extends beyond 90 degrees when opened, back, 95 degrees Specks of verdigris; Very dirty and with tarnish; Precious metal content marked. DIAL: Hairlines in enamel, light, 10:00 - 11:00, center to seconds bit; Tiny flake at edge of seconds bit; Specks of dirt. HANDS: Oxidation, tip of minute. MOVEMENT PLATES: Minor scratches on plate; Very dirty; Minor spotting; A few specks of oxide on balance cock screw. MOVEMENT FUNCTION: Not running, good balance staff, needs service, cannon pinion very tight. Box with wear and losses. This watch descended in the family of the original owner, and has not previously been offered for sale at auction. The Reverend Zenas Thompson served in the 6th Regiment Maine Volunteer Infantry. He enlisted from Portland, Maine (age 60) and was commissioned as a Chaplain on July 15, 1861. He resigned his commission on July 15, 1862. It appears that this watch was presented as a parting gift.
