this version adds complexity to the simple timepiece alarms that were also sold and exhibited at the Great Exhibition of 1851 in London. All related examples can be seen in Roberts' book titled CONTINENTAL AND AMERICAN SKELETON CLOCKS, pages 102--107. Front plates came both engraved and plain, our example here being plain.
