Condition Report For Lot# 942:
the tablet is a replacement, and the old dial is painted on the reverse of a rolling moon dial (see detail image). There are extra holes in the head from the original dial, and extra holes in the rear of the case, below the movement, probably from an old weight stop, now replaced with a single screw. movement is secured to the case back with 2 screws through the back plate into the back. Case on all sides retains a nice old crazed finish that is original. Paul Foley's research has found that most of these lyre cases originated in the Boston area, often finished by country makers with their own movement, and his book titled "Willard's Patent Time Pieces" should be part of a banjo collector's library.
