Condition Report For Lot# 739 :
case very good, a bit dirty and with minor staining, gilding with minor losses, dial good, hands with minor oxide, movement running and striking, very dirty, some steel components with surface rust, pendulum with minor scratches and dings on some parts. This is a particularly nice example of the portico style, with finely detailed ornament on all sides, and well finished movement, indicating that the clock was to be displayed before an over mantel mirror. Little is known about this maker, with only a mention of the name and location in the most recent edition of "Watchmakers and Clockmakers of the World" by Brian Loomes. It is interesting to note that Deltroit included "student of Janvier" on the back plate, suggesting that he studied under Antide Janvier, one of the most eminent makers in horological history. A coded number below the signature may be the date of completion, possibly 1830.
