Condition Report For Lot# 920:
there has been some restoration and the movement and bezel re-gilded; hour hand is a bit loose on hub and slips a bit; a spoke on the escape wheel has been repaired; the top cock holding the verge pivot appears to be recently made. Clock runs for an hour and stops. Minor hairline in dial near 1. There is an engraved, silvered plaque attached to the frame, bearing the name Mathias Wibral. We found several similar clocks by Wibral in Derek Robert's book titled "American and Continental Skeleton Clocks". A clock by another Viennese maker, shown as fig 142 on page 148 of this book is nearly identical; you can notice variations in the marble columns. Although the French are responsible for introducing skeleton clocks in the mid 1700s, the Austrians added a unique beauty all their own. Overall ht with dome = 25" ht from top of base to finial 19"
