Condition Report For Lot# 89:
except for a new gimbal/tub lock in the front corner, later key to lock and seconds hand, this is in overall very good to excellent original condition, movement running briskly. The well engraved dial bears the fractional number 575/44050, the first being the # of the chronometer, the second is this item in total of all items produced by Roskell. Typical of this period, the up-down indicator gives additional reminders: Up, Wind (at 24 hour mark), Two Days (at 48 hour mark), and Down (at 54 hour mark). Large gold hands are original, brass second's hand is replaced. The original one way winding key is attached to the winding shaft, and must have its retaining screw undone to take the movement out of its tub (small screw itself is replaced). A similar Roskell chronometer offered at Sotheby's, New York on April 4th, 2001, Lot 220, serial #1082 c1840, sold for the price of $7,201 (Approx 4800 at the time). The width is 6" and the height is 6.25".
Estimate: $2700 - $3500
